The Beginning

I am a person built around reflection. I like to think that I have wonderful hindsight, but I feel that's only because I have such terrible foresight. Either way I gain insight from hindsight and have always been one to want to journal moments in my life so that I have a tangible source for reflection. Of course my ambition in regards to journaling is about like my foresight and has floundered often, so when I accepted the position at Hastings College I knew it would be to my benefit both as a person and a coach to chronicle my experiences. I have decided to do my journaling in the form of a blog. My brother and sister-in-law do the same with their experiences in Taiwan as a way to keep in touch with family and friends. While there's is more a highlight reel of all that they do, for me this is more of an open door at my thoughts and emotions. It's hard for me to write with reins in hand so I'm warning anyone who happens to read this that at times things may get personal or even emotional. Writing is the only outlet for many of my deepest emotions, and that in itself is one of my biggest hang-ups in pushing the "publish post" button because those thoughts and feelings will inevitably slip out at times. Nevertheless, you are welcome to read as much or as little, and often as you desire.

I suppose for those of you who may not know I have recently accepted the position of Graduate Assistant Coach at Hastings College for their women's basketball team. I will be working under Coach Jeff Dittman and alongside fellow GA Carrie Larson. I have spent some time with both of them already and I can tell they know the game inside and out and I’m excited to learn from them. I have been the head coach at Rye High School in Rye, CO for the last three years and this new venture will actually be my first experience as an assistant since I coached 7th grade junior varsity under Gunny Pagnotta four years ago. My time at Rye was the greatest of my life. I coached some of the greatest kids I've ever met and everything I do will be compared to that and every kid I coach will be compared to my girls at Rye. I truly love those kids and I love that community, but nonetheless it was time. Before I get too deep into things I'm going to conclude this introductory post.

Until next time,

- Coach Kyle
